Country-rock breakout star Jelly Roll [Jason DeFord] looks like a tough guy from the outside, but has a heart of gold on the inside. The “Creature” singer jumped on social media Wednesday (Aug. 31) to celebrate his sixth wedding anniversary with his wife, Bunnie.
Within the sincere tribute, Jelly Roll reflects on the unconventional day they tied the knot and gives country music fans a glimpse inside their healthy relationship.
“6 YEARS AGO TODAY WE STUMBLED INTO COURT HOUSE DRUNK AND GOT MARRIED,” Jelly Roll declared. “And looking back at what felt like the absolute wildest decision I ever made it ended up literally being the best decision i’ve made my entire life.”
The genre-bending artist pointed out how his wife turned him into the man he is today.
“This woman has truly changed my life in every way possible. She truly changed the lens in which I see life through. These last 6 years have been a testament of the growth two rebels can make when they bring the best out of each other and push each other to the next level,” he wrote in the caption. “Thank you for coming into my life and calming the storm.”
Jelly Roll rattled off reasons why he appreciates his other half and praised Bunnie for being a supportive stepmom to his daughter.
“Thank you for running wild and free with me. Thank you for raising Bailee as is she was your own. Thank you for standing by me when the monsters attacked and fighting the demons with me. Thank you ram love. Thank you for smile and constantly being the same silly woman I fall in love with everyday. Thank you for stopping to dance with me anytime any day anywhere. HAPPY Anniversary Beautiful,” he concluded with gratitude.
The heartfelt message was paired with a passionate photo of the two next to a grand piano and a snapshot from a Nashville hockey tournament.
The host of the Dumb Blonde Podcast also shared a lengthy message to Jelly Roll and went into detail about their unique love story.
“6 years. We made it 6 fkn years, Daddy. I kno to some that doesn’t seem long, but to us it speaks volumes. Two chaotic off the rail feral souls that collided in a smoky bar-downtown Vegas in 2015. Fast forward to newly single me in 2016 & J was asking me what my 5 year plan was completely annihilated from the booze-filled night we had. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought we would have manifested everything we talked about that night,” Bunnie explained. “You ease the violence in my soul & make me a softer woman. You refocused my vision so I could become the best version of myself & partner for you. You gave me a family because the one I have is extremely toxic & broken. You are other worldly – your soul is too pure for this planet yet still, somehow you’re mind & you choose me daily.”
The letter-like message continued, “Daddy, I’m eternally yours, endlessly grateful & forever your best friend thru this crazy earth journey we call life. Thank you for giving me the most cosmic 6 years of my life. Life changing, soul shaking & earth shattering. I’m the luckiest girl in the universe,” she added.
The critically acclaimed singer-songwriter relatively recently leaned into his country roots with “Son Of A Sinner.” His vulnerability shines through on the raw track, which conveys his complex struggles with addiction. His old-world storytelling immediately resonated with fans, shooting the hit to the top 30 on the Billboard Country Music chart and becoming the most-added song on country radio upon impact. The rapper turned country crooner co-wrote the sonically pleasing ballad alongside ERNEST and David Ray Stevens
The fast-rising artist recently teamed up with country outlaw star Brantley Gilbert for head-banging single “Son Of The Dirty South” and previously wrapped up their five-date tour together. On the heels of the high-energy run, Jelly Roll will embark on the Planet Zero World Tour with Shinedown
While relishing in his new profound success, Jelly Roll plans to use his powerful platform and voice to help at-risk children. The friendly giant is set to take Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on December 9, 2022 for a benefit concert. 100 percent of the proceeds will go towards building a music center for a local juvenile detention facility.
