Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the stars who found love, suffered heartbreak or experienced some other major event in their love lives in mid-September 2022, starting with this duo… During a Sept. 20 interview with “Extra,” Kaley Cuoco said “it was absolutely love at first sight” when she met her new boyfriend, “Ozark” actor Tom Pelphrey, earlier this year. “We have the same management team. My manager actually took me as her guest to the ‘Ozark’ [season 4, part 2] premiere [in April] and I met him there. It was like the angels started singing. I was like, ‘Hallelujah!’ It was very magical. It was perfect,” she gushed, adding that she “met Tom at the right moment” after spending some time working on herself following her split from second husband Karl Cook in the summer of 2021. Kaley, by the way, attended the “Ozark” season 4, part 2 premiere in Los Angeles on April 21 — less than two weeks before she and Tom made their Instagram debut as a couple.

Jon Hamm has previously said that he doesn’t have “the marriage chip,” but on the Sept. 19 episode of “The Howard Stern Show,” the “Mad Men” alum admitted that sometime within “the last couple of years,” he’s come around on the concept. He attributed the shift to his current relationship with actress Anna Osceola, to whom he was first publicly linked in mid-2020: “I feel very settled and comfortable. I’m in a relationship right now. … It’s comfortable. It’s a feeling of taking care of someone else and being taken care of,” he said. He went on to explain that therapy helped him process the trauma of losing his mother at age 10, which created “a wound that blocks a lot of that emotional accessibility … availability and vulnerability.” Continued the Emmy winner, “It’s only been in the last couple of years, me kind of sitting down and really thinking about all that stuff, that’s made the relationship that I’m in now even more meaningful and opened up the possibility of things like being married, having kids, defining a new version of happiness, life, wellness. … It sounds hokey and whatever, but it’s real and it’s — for want of a better word — it’s what I’m working for. What else is there other than that?” When Howard followed up by saying that it seems like Jon is in love with Anna — who’s nearly two decades his junior — he replied, “Very much so, yes.”

According to Us Weekly, Cheryl Burke and Matthew Lawrence finalized their divorce on Sept. 19. Not long after that, the “Dancing With the Stars” pro took to TikTok to strongly imply for the second time that the former child star cheated on her. The dancer shared a video of herself lip-syncing to dialogue from “Modern Love” in which Dev Patel’s character asks Caitlin McGee’s character, “Did you sleep with him or just kiss him?” Replies Caitlin’s character, “I slept with him.” Responds Dev’s character, “Okay, bye.” Cheryl changed the pronouns from “him” to “her” in the brief clip and added a list of action items that she checked off: “Kick him out my house. Hire divorce attorney. File for divorce,” she wrote across the video, which she captioned with hashtags for “self respect,” “peace out” and “boundaries.” As for the divorce… The duo reportedly followed the terms of their prenuptial agreement, with Cheryl walking away from the marriage with her royalties and earning from “DWTS” and her partnership with QVC, while Matthew is holding onto his royalties from his various projects from over the years. Neither will pay spousal support to the other, and they’ll determine custody of their dog at a later date.

On Sept. 16, People magazine reported that, according to a source, Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen have actually been living apart for “more than a month” now — much longer than previously believed. “Gisele is busy with her own life now and has spent time away from Tom in Miami and New York,” said one source, adding that the supermodel and the professional football player “would like to work things out” amid a rough patch in their marriage over his decision to renege on his promise to retire from the NFL. A second source noted that the duo “live separate lives” during football season, while yet another People source said that the quarterback “knows that this is his last season [in the NFL] if he wants to stay married.”

During an interview with Elle that debuted online on Sept. 21, Shakira opened up for the very first time about her pailful split from Gerard Piqué amid rumors he cheated. “Everything is so raw and new. I can only say that I put everything I had into this relationship and my family,” she said, adding that their breakup “is not like a regular separation” because they’re both in the spotlight. “Sometimes I just feel like this is all a bad dream and that I’m going to wake up at some point. But no, it’s real,” she continued. She went on to say that she had “the big dream of having a family forever” and that “to see that dream broken or shredded into pieces is probably one of the most painful things that you can ever go through.” The chart-topper went on to allege that she put her career on the back-burner to support her ex and their two sons: “As a soccer player, [Gerard] wanted to play football and to win titles and I had to support him. I mean, one of the two of us had to make a sacrifice, right? Either he would stop his contract with Barcelona and move to the U.S. with me, where my career is, or I would have to do that instead. And so, one of the two had to make that effort and that sacrifice. And I did it. I put my career in second gear and I came to Spain, to support him so he could play football and win titles. And it was a sacrifice of love. Thanks to that, my kids were able to have a present mom, and I have this amazing bond with them that is unbreakable and that sustains us,” she said. (Sound familiar?) Shakira concluded by noting that this is the first time in her life she’s been single: “My whole life I’ve been in relationships and I thought that that was the ideal state for a person. You know, to be a part of a couple. Right now, it’s just me and the kids and my family and those friends who check in on me periodically,” she said. “I feel like it’s plenty. For now. Yeah. Let’s wait for that hole in my chest to close and then see what happens.”

On Sept. 19, Instagram model Sumner Stroh took to TikTok to share a video alleging that she recently had an affair with Adam Levine — who’s been married to Behati Prinsloo for nearly a decade. Sumner — who claimed in a follow-up video that she was under the impression Adam and Behati were over when she spent time with him — alleged that she and the singer were “seeing each other for about a year” until she “stopped talking to him over a period of months” when she realized that he and the former Victoria’s Secret Angel were still, in fact, an item. (She later alleged to Page Six that the affair was “physical” and that it kicked off in 2021.) Sumner went public, she claimed, after she forwarded a screenshot of her text messages with the Maroon 5 frontman — in which he gushed “it is truly unreal how f****** hot you are” — to a friend who attempted to sell her story to a tabloid. Over the course of the next few days, several more women came forward with allegations that Adam had also sent sexually charged messages to them in recent years. On Sept. 20, Adam took to his Instagram Story to insist that he “did not have an affair,” though he admitted that he “used poor judgment” and “crossed the line” by flirting with other women. Wrote the Grammy winner, “[Risking my family] was the greatest mistake I could ever make. I will never make it again. I take full responsibility. We will get through it. And we will get through it together.” As for the state of his marriage amid the drama…

On Sept. 21, E! News reported that, according to a source, Behati Prinsloo is “upset” but believes “there was no physical affair” between her husband, Adam Levine, and Instagram model Sumner Stroh. “They have been together this entire time. She feels they are happily married and is shocked to find out what was going on behind her back,” said the source, adding that the situation has been “a wake-up call” for the Maroon 5 frontman. A People magazine source echoed that the former Victoria’s Secret Angel is “very upset” with the singer but “100 percent committed to her family.” Said the source, “Adam is very understanding about her feelings. He is trying his best to make things better. He never wants a divorce.” A second People source insisted that Adam is “committed to Behati and wants to make things work.” Yet another People source explained that the Grammy winner — who admitted back in 2009 that he’d cheated in the past and said that “monogamy is not in [men’s] genetic makeup” — craves “female attention” but “swears” that “nothing physical happened” with Sumner. Amid the drama, Adam and Behati were photographed smiling together while out and about near their home in Montecito, California, signaling that — surprisingly! — all is well between them. Gabby Windey accepted a marriage proposal from Erich Schwer on the finale of season 19 of “The Bachelorette,” which aired on Sept. 20. Later that night, she took to Instagram to prove they’re still going strong: “Hard launch,” she captioned a slideshow of PDA-packed photos from their time away from the spotlight. On the “After the Final Rose” special, Gabby and Erich also made it clear that they aren’t letting mid-September allegations made by his ex — that he called off their “short-lived” but “very intense” relationship when he got cast on the reality show — affect them. “I led her on and I want to own that,” Erich said of his ex, adding that he made “a mistake” by “using the show as an excuse” to break up with her. “I was taking the cowardly way out. … I didn’t see a future [with her], but we were having fun. And it’s easy — especially then — to just continue to have fun [rather than] make the hard decision to say, ‘This isn’t long-term,'” he said. Gabby, meanwhile, noted that Erich told her about the situation with his ex “way before” the other woman leaked their text messages online. She also said that she trusts her fiancé but admitted he was “kind of an a******” to his ex. As for the other Bachelorette…

Rachel Recchia accepted a marriage proposal from Tino Franco on the finale of season 19 of “The Bachelorette,” which aired on Sept. 20. But it wasn’t meant to be: The duo called it quits as the season was airing after he kissed someone else — a woman he knew from before his time on the show — during a rough patch in their relationship. Later, during the live portion of the finale, Rachel reconnected with her runner-up, Aven Jones — whom she dumped on the penultimate episode when he expressed doubts about getting engaged so soon. “I was just wondering if you wanted to maybe get out of here and just catch up?” he asked. Replied Rachel, “I would love nothing more.” Only time will tell if they’re able to reconcile romantically…
E! News reported on Sept. 19 that Paul Wesley and his second wife, jewelry professional Ines de Ramon, recently called it quits following three years of marriage. “The decision to separate is mutual and occurred five months ago,” said a rep for the “Vampire Diaries” alum, who was previously married to “Chicago Med” actress Torrey DeVitto and romanced “The Vampire Diaries” co-star Phoebe Tonkin off and on for several years.
On Sept. 16, People magazine reported that, according to Sarah Chalke’s rep, the “Scrubs” alum and former fiancé Jamie Afifi “separated some time ago.” Said the rep, “They remain committed to being devoted co-parents and good friends.” The actress and the entertainment lawyer got engaged in 2006 and share two children.
On Sept. 16, Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds announced on Twitter that he and off-and-on love Aja Volkman have separated for the second time: “I am saddened to say that after many beautiful years together Aja and I have separated. Being great parents to our children is our number one priority. Thank you for always supporting us with love and care for all these years,” he tweeted. A few days later, he opened up about the current state of their relationship during an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show.” Said the Grammy winner, “I love her. She is my best friend and an incredible mother, and we are going to be great parents to our kids. Relationships are so complex. We were together over a decade. We split up [and] got back together [once before]. It was kind of one of those, like, ‘can’t live with, can’t live without’ things. … Now here we are four years later at the close of a chapter, and it feels hard. It feels like mourning for me, to be honest. But it also feels like I’m just on the path that I’m supposed to be on in life.” The duo first split in the spring of 2018. They reconnected later that year and welcomed their fourth child in late 2019.
On Sept. 11, Billy Corgan’s partner of a decade, Chloe Mendel, took to Instagram to announce that they got engaged on her 30th birthday. “‘Tis true, I turned 30 yesterday. Thank you all for the kind messages. I spent the day unplugged with my whole family (5 brothers, sister, parents, cousins, niece, nephew, kids and close friends..) which was so special. If you know me, family is and has always been the most important thing to me. And getting all 7 siblings in one house hasn’t happened in over a decade. Was a day full of emotions. We lost a pet, ate great food, Augustus lost a tooth, and we enjoyed great company. The day finished with a wedding proposal. Of course I said yes,” she captioned a video of herself and the Smashing Pumpkins frontman blowing out the candles on her birthday cake with their two kids.
On Sept. 16, Armie Hammer’s estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers, took to Instagram to debut her new boyfriend: Ricardas Kazinec. “Happy Friday,” she captioned a shot of several PDA-packed Polaroid pictures with the wellness professional. According to a People magazine source, they’ve been dating “for over six months,” and she’s “super happy and in love.” Elizabeth said as much during an interview with E! News that debuted online on Sept. 21, confirming that she’s “in a committed relationship now” and “very happy.” As for the current state of her relationship with Armie, who engaged in a handful of affairs that allegedly turned abusive… “Our divorce is not finalized. But we are in a really great place. We talk all the time. We’re committed fully and wholly to our children, and to being together as much as possible in a non-romantic way for our kids. Kids need their mom; kids need their dad. So there’s nothing we won’t do,” the mother of two told E! She also said of ending their marriage, “A divorce is a death. … It was the last thing I ever wanted.”
During an interview with Cosmopolitan that debuted online on Sept. 20, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” star Laura Harrier revealed that she and her boyfriend of three years, Sam Jarou, are set to wed. “We did get engaged recently, which I’m very excited about,” she said. “[The proposal] was really simple and sweet in Paris. I never wanted one of those big showy public engagements. That’s just not my personality. As for how she knew her beau was The One… “The cliché of when you know, you know. I never really believed it until that happened to me. It’s a funny feeling when you just find peace and calm. I also really do believe that you need to be ready within yourself before you can find somebody else to be with, which I also always thought was a cliché until I felt secure within myself and the person I am and where I’m at in life,” she said.
That was fast! JoJo Siwa and her new girlfriend, Avery Cyrus, made their red carpet debut as a couple at the opening night of “Jagged Little Pill” at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood on Sept. 14 — just two days after the “Dance Moms” alum confirmed speculation that she and the TikTok star were an item.
According to TMZ, David Beador filed to divorce Lesley Cook on Sept. 15 following just 23 months of marriage. The “Real Housewives of Orange County” alum — who was previously married to “RHOC” star Shannon Beador for 17 years — cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and asked for joint legal and physical custody of their 19-month-old daughter. The duo reportedly signed a prenup before they tied the knot in October 2020, and David indicated that he didn’t want to pay spousal support to Lesley. On Sept. 21, however, Lesley indicated on Instagram that she and David aren’t going their separate ways: “My husband filed a request for a dismissal a few days ago. Now back to your regular scheduled programming,” she captioned a selfie with the former reality star.
On “Love is Blind: After the Altar,” which debuted on Netflix on Sept. 16, “Love Is Blind” season 2 co-stars Kyle Abrams and Deepti Vempati finally confirmed long-standing rumors about the nature of their relationship. “I wanna just start a relationship — like a legitimate relationship with you and be exclusive instead of just, like, in limbo,” Kyle told Deepti before they agreed to date exclusively. At another point, Deepti gushed of Kyle, “I definitely want Kyle. I want him to be my boyfriend. Eventually I feel like I want him to be my husband. Like, he’s the first thing I think about when I wake up. He’s the last person I talk to before I go to bed. I look at him and I’m like, ‘I could see myself doing this for the rest of my life with you.’ He could be my lifelong partner.” But just three days after the three-part special debuted, Kyle announced on Instagram that he and Deepti called it quits sometime “in early summer.” He added that he’s since “embarked on a new relationship” that he intends to “keep private for a bit.” On Sept. 20, Deepti addressed the breakup on Instagram, captioning a montage video of photos and videos with her ex, “Kyle and I are now walking different paths and are no longer together. We couldn’t share these memories over the past year so sharing them now.”
“GLOW” actress Britt Baron married her high school sweetheart, singer-songwriter Taber Onthank, at the Ebell Club in Long Beach, California, on Sept. 4. “He really was my first love I could never get over. He’s endlessly supportive, kind, funny, talented and just as passionate about dog adoption and ‘Survivor’ as I am. In high school, we talked about wanting to get married, so I guess we’ve known all along!” the bride gushed of her new hubby to People magazine, which published exclusive wedding photos. The duo — who briefly split when they attended different colleges — got engaged in June 2021.
On Sept. 19, “The Girl from Plainville” and “Dear Evan Hansen” actor Colton Ryan took to Instagram to announce that he and his girlfriend of eight years, actress Adrian Grace Bumpas, recently got engaged. “We’re overflowing with excitement!!!” he captioned a photo of the bride-to-be spitting out champagne following the proposal. Adrian, meanwhile, captioned her own slideshow of proposal pics, “I said duh.”
On Sept. 16, Brides magazine broke the news that “Love Is Blind” alum Jessica Batten eloped with her fiancé of nearly a year, Benjamin McGrath, at the Santa Barbara Courthouse in Santa Barbara, California, on Aug. 24. The duo — who said “I do” in front of four friends — are planning a larger celebration of their marriage for August 2024. “The genuine happiness that comes through here I have truly never seen of myself. I am so thankful and overjoyed to call @doctor.ben_ my husband and I’m in love with this new chapter of life,” the bride later captioned a wedding video on Instagram.
On Sept. 21, Emeli Sandé took to Instagram to announce that she recently got engaged to classical pianist Yoana Karemova. “I said Yes!” she captioned a photo of herself showing off her new engagement ring. Yoana, meanwhile, captioned a photo of a celebratory cake, “I just would like to say we are forever together!! And [I’m] so happy you replied with YES.” It’s unclear how long the two women have been an item. The Scottish singer-songwriter came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in March.
“So You Think You Can Dance” alum Valerie Rockey — who came in second on season 11 in 2014 — took to Instagram on Sept. 18 to announce that she recently married her boyfriend of nearly six years, filmmaker Ace Thor, in Indianapolis. “The Thors. My husband!! We did it,” she captioned a photo from their wedding day. The duo got engaged in September 2021.
According to People magazine, which published exclusive wedding photos, “Dancing With the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance” alum Brittany Cherry married her boyfriend of five years, Bryan Agnew, at the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, California, on Sept. 18. “I’m so excited to be married to him and he is truly just my best friend and the most incredible person in my life. I’m just so excited for the life that we’re about to build together,” gushed the bride. The duo got engaged in 2020.
In mid-September, “So You Think You Can Dance” and “America’s Best Dance Crew” alum Hokuto Konishi married hairstylist Gina Atkinson in a ceremony officiated by the groom’s Quest Crew colleague Ryanimay Conferido. The nuptials capped off a multi-day celebration with their closest friends in Marrakesh, Morocco. The duo got engaged in late 2019.
According to Town & Country, Princess Maria Laura of Belgium married William Isvy in Brussels on Sept. 10, first in a civil ceremony at Brussels City Hall and then in a religious ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula. The bride’s grandparents — King Albert II and Queen Paola — plus Belgium’s current ruling monarch — Maria Laura’s uncle, King Philippe, and his wife, Queen Mathilde — were on hand for the nuptials.
